E-books are on the rise among Spanish readership, with 65% of top Spanish titles on Amazon as e-books as of 2014. Many companies are partnering with overseas publishers to market e-books. This applies primarily to adult books, with children's books on a much slower rise (Riesenberg, 2014).
Movie/TV media is an important part of the Spanish collection, as Spanish-speaking households are less likely to have streaming subscriptions. According to one study, DVD's accounted for 22% of circulation of Spanish materials in 2015. DVD's should include award-winning films, classics, popular movies, independent films, and TV series, including telenovelas (Gomez, 2015). See Gomez's list of recommended titles.
While print is typically preferred for periodicals, having online resources and availability never hurts. Reference materials online in the subject areas mentioned under Reference Services may reach those who are unable to physically access a library or do not feel safe entering the building.
